ShakeDown Radio Podcast
Shakedown Radio with Chris Caggs is the ultimate home for high-energy dance, house, EDM, RnB, and hip-hop, hosted by Australian radio legend Chris Carragher—better known nationwide as Chris Caggs. With a career spanning nearly 30 years in the Australian radio industry, Chris Caggs brings an unmatched passion, deep music knowledge, and a legacy of broadcasting excellence to every single episode. Son of Australian Olympian and Scottish Commonwealth Games athlete Gavin Carragher, Chris has established himself as a powerhouse DJ, music programmer, and podcaster. Throughout his extensive career, he has been a permanent on-air resident across 16 iconic radio stations and syndicated across more than 200 stations via the Community Radio Network (ComRad Satellite). The Legacy of Chris Caggs Chris Caggs’ broadcasting journey began in July 1998, when his childhood dream became a reality hosting a permanent radio show alongside co-host Mista-C on Sydney’s first Hip Hop & RnB community radio station, Pump FM 99.3FM. The station evolved into Dance Radio 99.3FM and later relaunched as Dance FM 94.5FM in August 2000. Later in 1998, Chris joined DJ-FM 87.6FM, a full-time 24/7 dance station serving the Sydney CBD and inner city under the Roberts Media Group (owned by Robert Iezzi). Working alongside top-tier talent like Frank Chiment, Antonio Avati, Joe Avati, Susie Stapleton, Dave Einfield, Andre Waitsmrn, Joe Corte, and Rob Brizzi, the station was backed by legendary sponsors like Central Station Records, Telstra, Carlton & United, Noizenet, Pulse Music, SBA Music, and Free FM 96.9 CDs. Following DJ-FM’s conclusion in 1999, Chris connected with industry pioneers Timmy Byrne and Phil K—the visionaries behind Melbourne's Kiss 90FM (now Kiss FM Dance Music Australia)—during the transition to Rhythm FM 87.6. From October 1999 to January 2001, Chris served as an on-air host and music programmer for Sydney’s metro-wide Groove FM 94.5FM & 96.9FM, broadcasting directly from the Wild FM studios in Railway Square thanks to Darren Leigh, Mike Scott, and Fabrizio Vilardo. Spearheading the weekday Breakfast and Weekend shows, Chris crossed paths with prominent media figures including Andrew G (Channel [V], The Bachelor, The Masked Singer), Bessie Bardot, Rene Rivkin (The Rivkin Report), DJ Nino Brown, Georgina Reed, Sam Boutros, Natasha Zuvela (MTV), Yvette Duncan (MTV), and Zoe Naylor (MTV/Channel 9). During this era, A Selection Of Groove Vol 1 compiled by Darren Leigh via Universal Music Group became a massive bestseller at HMV Australia's Queen Street Mall store. In August and September 2000, Chris brought his signature energy north to host the breakfast show and manage music programming for Groove FM 97.3 Brisbane out of the Pulse FM studios in Coorparoo, collaborating with Fez Lateef (Added Flava), Adrian Day, Dustin & Anna, Patrick Donohue, Scott Ferris, DJ Kina, and Kristian Hernandez.
